Shower thought

I’m currently on a lot of academic debts. My internship, my thesis (aspiring publication), my coursework assignments (which I’m supposed to be working on right now but I’m just procrastinating to write this damn thing), let’s see if it’s worth it.

I woke up today and accidentally stumbled upon an article about How do VCP arrange their own democracy in voting and the system behind that. It’s a touchy subject to converse about in public, considering where I’m at now. But I think I’ll need some anchors to serve as baseline for my own motto/ alignment. So then I did a bit of comparison with other countries, notably USA and European countries. Here’s a few bullet points to save time:

  • The liberation from dynastic/ feudalism/ monarchy era in Vietnam is much later than those in America/ European. (USA never went through one, and Europe ended theirs during 14th - 17th century). This explains a lot in history about the delay/ shift in advancing through regimes.
  • The article I read stated that voting in Vietnam follows a waterfall model with 7-8 floors in total, where the direct public influence (first layer) doesn’t affect as much as latter one. (Commune -> District -> City -> Region -> Central -> (so on and so forth) -> General Secretary)
  • American and European countries does follow the similar hierarchy to be fair, but the difference is that they must gain approval from the public (think of it as every votes count) and many mechanisms that allow the public to influence the current positions of people with highest order. I’m not sure about this as I have never lived in those countries but multiple parties, campaign, free press is a bonus point for transparency in government.

I do not intent to change/ step into the political landscape of any organization, I’m just observing and stating my subjective view here. Yeah I’m just a coward like that. And maybe you will get a grasp of why/ how in the next paragraph.

But then a sudden thought came to me, what’s the underlying mechanism here, do the people who in charge know what’re going on with what they’re doing? Malicious intents/ attributes are often assigned to others when there’re something to blame for. How does everything even function at all in a human world? I have a few ideas in mind, but after accidentally watching this video on 5 main breakthroughs of intelligence that leads to humankind today, it comes to me very naturally that belief is what drives people in their daily lives. Let me explain how.

So about the 5 stages of intelligence, creatures started off with a simple nerves system that act as sensory receiver and actor on their own. Pretty simple, but that’s a breakthrough that phytoplankton don’t have (yes they’re the foods for zooplankton, which are food for whales)

But the ultimate of intelligence, as far we current know and express, scientifically speaking, is ourselves. We human are more advanced than the 4th stage (imagine learning from direct observations), that is we can learn through other’s imagined scenarios as well, which ties into language, writing, stories, tales, fantasies, belief, etc.

And circling back to the initial thesis, I think that artificial fictional constructs like Rules, Money, Government, Religion, and so on are functioning purely on beliefs/ norms acknowledged among each person. I conversed a bit with Gemini to be honest and a lot of terms / concepts were throwing all around, I’m just naming a few things here: Dunbar’s number (expliciting there’s only a handful amount of people you will befriend with at a time), so how does this constraint go against the fact that two people from different nationalities with mutual religion can share more trust than ones who don’t, or how can orders be found in daily life at all (thanks to laws/ humanity rights). Hedonic cycle (explain in a bit), etc.

So I have a thinking moment, what’s my belief then? I’ve been playing around with my identity as an aspiring neuroscientist in neuroai since beginning of my second year. So what? What do I crave for within this domain?

And by the way, I think that what I’ve just been through explains a lot for other case as well, e.g: Monks do not bother about loving relationships or moneys as they’re only pushed towards enlightment, self-awareness and so on, that’s their beliefs. The same goes with any religions tbh. People have their own fantasies, hope, passions and dream all the time, and I think that if one possess enough obession with their beliefs, other stuffs doesn’t bother them as much (as in the case of monks). And another thing here is that I think every passion, every desire has its own root and stems from individual’s upbringing, having nothing to do with being noble than one another.
TL;DR: Passionate people will prioritize their dreams b4 other things. Every passion needs to be viewed as equal.

So about me, I think my current lifelong goal is to develop brain-computer interfaces, extending to a new form of communication among people using direct experience (basically telepathy), a bit of automating/ accelerating tacit knowledge, and finally, focus on developing brain-brain interface, advancing towards a future with collective intelligence (hivemind like).

I know that all of these sounds very futuristic, transhumanism and gradiose, but I want to achieve it, I’ve deluded myself to. So peace:)
